Buy Desktop PC with
Most people want to buy a
desktop PC with Windows 7 as it has the familiar Desktop that
everyone has been using for over 15 years. The question I get asked
most often is should I buy a computer with Windows 7 32Bit or 64
bit. The answer is simple - if the PC has more then 3.5GB of RAM
then only Windows 7 64 Bit can access and make use of this RAM. So,
if your desktop PC has 8GB or more RAM then you should buy a
computer with Windows 7 64 bit. The other thing to consider if you
want to buy a desktop computer with Windows 7 64 bit is software and
driver compatibility. Make sure that the software that you have
(Microsoft Office, MYOB etc) is fully complaint with Windows 7 64
Also, Windows 7 Home
Premium 64 bit has a 16GB RAM limit. So, if you are buying a desktop
computer with more then 16GB of RAM, then make sure to get either
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit or Windows Ultimate 64 bit.

Professional. The main reason is the Windows XP mode. With Windows
XP mode, you are able to run older Windows XP software right on your
Windows 7 desktop. Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized
businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and
works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.
Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as
Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft
Finally, when you buy a PC
with Windows 7, make sure that the computer shop gives you the
original Windows 7 DVD. This will come in very handy if you want to
re-install Windows 7 at a later date. Most PC manufacturers give you
a "RECOVERY DISC". This recovery disc has an image of Windows and
all the programs and drivers installed on your new desktop PC at the
time of manufacturing. Although this is a good method of recovering
the PC, problem arise when you try to use the recovery disc and you
have upgraded or replaced the parts in your PC. As the recovery CD
will not have the drivers for the new upgraded hardware, Windows
will not install successfully. It is always a good idea to have the
Windows CD and the drivers CD separate.
